How To Build An Enormous List

Here we are approaching 2011, fast and furious!  And I know that many people are struggling with jobs that don’t pay, and hopes for an online business that haven’t quite materialized yet.  Since the money is in the list, or so we’ve been told… you need to know how to build an enormous list.

Do I have all the answers??  NOT BY A LONG SHOT!

But one thing I do know is that you have to keep working at it.  Traffic is king, you have to have eyes on your site before anyone will join you in anything.  After all, if they don\’t know what you\’re doing, how can they be a part of it?

So, what do you do?  You advertise.  Pique your prospects interest, offer them an incentive to give you their contact information.  Stay in contact through your autoresponder.  And you continue to advertise.  All the while, building your list.  Remember, you must provide value.

If you’re not sure how to do all this, please grab a copy of Ultimate List Building Tips.  It’s a free e-book that I wrote giving you step by step direction and the resources to help you build your list.  Grab a copy.

There are a lot of choices when it comes to advertising.  Text ad exchanges, safelists, list builders (much the same as safelists) and traffic exchanges.  I highly recommend that you advertise everywhere you can, layering your advertising is what I call it.  Branding yourself, making yourself visible and consistent.

I will be launching a new list builder in January along with my business partner, Lisa McCormick.  There are many list builders to choose from, and I believe that Ultimate Profit List will be a top contender on the list of "where to advertise".  We are adding some great value to our membership through bonuses.  I hope that you will be among our beloved membership!

To get the details, please subscribe to our pre-launch list.  Here’s a screenshot of the form:

Just click on the image above and you’ll be taken to the actual form. I’ll put you on the pre-launch list so you’ll get advance notice of launch info plus you’ll get a special promo code for extra advertising, if you’ll complete the form with your info. (See the use of an incentive at work??)

So, be ready to add Ultimate Profit List to your arsenal of great advertising resources, read the ebook mentioned above, Ultimate List Building Tips, and let’s make 2011 YOUR YEAR!

How To Make The Most of Ill Health

Okay, I’m sure that you are wondering what that title means. Frankly, so am I. Just kidding… To most people, ill health is something to avoid at all cost. And I totally agree. Here’s a quick story about my recent illness.

On Black Friday, mid to late afternoon, I decided to move. (Quick update… my business partner and best friend, Lisa McCormick, and my elderly mother and my ex hub were currently living in an apartment because one of my daughters had been living in my house. Daughter moved out in August, ex son-out-law moved in. Bad idea. End of September, x-s-o-l said he could not pay rent & moved out. So, here we are stuck with an apartment lease until Spring and a vacant house with mortgage payments.) Back to the story… as I said, I decided to move. I got on the phone with the Internet service provider and cable company to see when they could get my services reactivated, then on to finding a moving company.

Both were available for Sunday after Thanksgiving. I was shocked but there was no time then to do anything except get busy. Sunday, moved in, Monday back to work, and suddenly it was Friday and a community garage sale on Saturday in our new/old neighborhood. Perfect! What a great opportunity to get rid of some things that we didn’t need, and a great way to grab some extra cash to offset the cost of the move.

Well, all weekend, I kept trucking along doing what I needed to do but I had a horrible headache and just didn’t feel well. I couldn’t sleep well, I was aching all over and was miserable. Ibuprofen was absolutely NOT helping the headache or the body aches. I’d recently had a flu shot so I wasn’t worried about it being the flu. Monday morning, I called my doctor and was able to get in before lunch. Lisa drove me to the doctor and he knew immediately upon seeing me that I was a sick kiddo. He’s been my doctor for a long time and told Lisa that I have an incredible tolerance for pain, and incredibly high (he mentioned “through the roof”) tolerance for dealing with stress. So, after talking to me for a few minutes and asking doctorly questions, he diagnosed “viral meningitis”.

He sent me to the Emergency Room, where they did a spinal tap or lumbar puncture. Diagnosis confirmed. Admission to the hospital. Morphine, plus several other pain meds for the head and body aches. Chest x-ray, IV, blood draws, etc. You know the drill. I finally started feeling better and was discharged on Thursday late afternoon. Friday was pretty low key, here at home. Saturday, a little more activity, and here we are on Sunday.

Now you have the background and I’ll explain what I mean about making the most of ill health.

My first comment is to tell you to listen to your body. If your body is telling you it doesn’t feel well, listen to it and do what is necessary to get better. What I discovered is that for me, being sick is a waste of time and energy. I know some people are really into that sort of thing. Not me. I have too much to do, too much life to live to live it being sick. So, make the most of your ill health to think about how you want to live you life and then do it.

Second thing… when I was lying in the hospital, I used the times I was feeling better to make some business decisions that needed to be made. Because I seem to run 90 miles an hour most of the time, sometimes I don’t slow down enough to do solid pro and con thinking. I just react rather than making conscious smart thinking decisions. So, I made the most of that down time during my ill health to do some serious thinking and planning. Obviously, if you’re terribly disoriented or under the influence of drugs, don’t make decisions or make decisions with the help of a trusted confidante.

I’m not yet at 100% healthwise, but I’ll get there. The third point here is that, during the time I’m getting better, I am making a point of not overdoing. In a time of good health, I can sit here for an 18 hour day, on the computer. But I am forced by my health to go slow, take breaks, rest and recuperate. So, you should do the same. You don’t even have to wait to be sick to do this. Make your time productive, rest, engage in other activities. Working online is not about giving up a 40 hour a week job with benefits to take on a 100+ hour a week online business with no benefits. So, don’t spend all your time on the computer. YES, you do have to WORK in order for your business to work, but work smarter.

Protect your health by eating properly, exercising, and having good outlets for your mental and physical well being. You’ve heard it before that if you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything. It’s true. How to make the most of ill health… avoid it like the plague. And enjoy your life.

Replace at least one negative habit every 3 months.

On the way to achieving your vision, there are no
doubt some positive habits that need to replace old
behaviors that haven’t succeeded in getting you there.
Otherwise, you would have already reached your
goal.

What’s been niggling at you? Chances are, you have
little voices from your conscience trying to do you a
favor by encouraging some changes here and there.
What are they telling you? What haven’t you been
doing that you know you should, but keep putting
off? What are some of the habits that people who’ve
already achieved the goal you want have?

Here are some questions to help joggle your mind
and shake some answers loose.

Business: Do you need to advertise more? Network
more? Make more phone calls? Show up for meet-
ings on time? Return inquiries within a shorter time
span? Research and implement a new strategy?
Straighten and keep your desk and office neatly
organized?

Relationships: Do you need to help around the
house more? Communicate your true feelings
more often? Make it home for dinner at least
3-4 times a week? Make a date with your spouse
for quality time together at least once a week?
Watch less TV? Play with your kids a few times
every week?

Health: Are you eating enough fresh fruits and
vegetables? Drinking enough water? Exercising
as often as you should? Taking the supplements
you know you should? Eating fast food too often?
Do you need to schedule regular doctor, optometrist,
and dentist appointments? Do you need to see a
specialist? Lose a few pounds? Cut down on your
alcohol consumption? Are you getting at least
eight hours of sleep every night?

Finances: Are you putting ten percent of your
earnings into an interest bearing account every
time you get paid? Are you saving for your retire-
ment? Are you saving for your children’s education?
Are you spending more than you make? Is your
credit card debt increasing rather than diminishing?

Personal: Are you constantly giving your time and
energy away to everyone but you? Are you giving
yourself the personal time and attention you need
and deserve? Are there closets, drawers, basements,
garages, and other areas in your home that are
screaming for clean up and organization, or repair?
Does your hair or wardrobe need updated?

Realize that every negative habit creates a negative
consequence at one time or another, even if you’re
not experiencing it yet. You can ward off disaster
and make your life more successful consistently by
adopting new habits on a regular basis, one by one.

You know what they are. Just choose one, and
begin.

Flip over thoughts that limit you.

Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can or
think you can’t – you are right.”

His observation illustrates the power of your own
thoughts. Whether a thought is true or not, you
make it so by believing it. Doesn’t it make more
sense to believe in *I can* instead of *I can’t*?

Flip your limiting thoughts over! Here’s how….

Identify what your limiting thoughts are when they
occur. Many of them were formed in childhood by
the type of messages and discipline you got from
well meaning authority figures in your life. Look for
thoughts that begin with these types of phrases:

I should …
I shouldn’t …
I’m not allowed …
I’m not supposed to …
It’s not okay when I …
I’m a baby when I …
I’m going to get in trouble if I …

Now that you’re not a child any longer, are these
rules still appropriate to the behavior, or do they
limit your choices?

If you are now limiting yourself with your own
thoughts that aren’t true anymore, take each
instance as it occurs and determine how you’d
rather feel, think, and act instead.

Then turn your new thoughts into an affirmative
statement that releases the limitation and gives
you permission to think, act, and feel in a new way.

Here’s an example from my own life…

Limiting thoughts: My opinions and feelings about
situations or conditions aren’t important, and in fact,
will distress others involved by discussing it. Be a
good girl. Shut up and be quiet. Don’t rock the
boat.

The flip side: Although some people may disagree
with me, my opinions, feelings, and ideas are valuable
and may help change the situation for the better for
all concerned. If I voice an opinion, others may have
ideas to add in, as well, and we can brainstorm
solutions until everyone wins.

“This subtle force of repeated suggestion overcomes
our reason. It acts directly on our emotions and our
feelings, and finally penetrates to the very depths of
our subconscious minds. It’s the repeated suggestion
that makes you believe.” ~Claude Bristol, author of
“The Magic of Believing.”

Turn your critical self-talk to positive encouragement.

Most of us heard a lot about what we did wrong when
we were growing up, but not much about what we did
right.

My mother, without realizing it, would compliment me
on something I achieved for about 2 seconds, and would
then proceed to tear that compliment apart by listing all
that she felt I did *wrong* on the road to that
accomplishment.

I now have an inner (or mental) critical parent that has
taken over the job that my mom used to do, and she’s
every bit as good at it! Chances are you have an inner
critic for similar reasons.

If you look at the percentage of times you feel you were
criticized as opposed to the times you were praised, what
would your ratio look like? Keep in mind that this exercise
is a memory perception only, not an accurate snapshot.
But it will reflect your current belief system about how
many times you screw up versus how many times you
do well, accurate or not. What does your intuition say
is your current ratio?

If your screw up number is high, you can look at it
rationally and know that it’s not an accurate picture of
reality. However, the self-talk that is created because
of your failure belief does affect the way you live your
life and the results you get. I’m guessing you’re going
to want to change those numbers!

Here’s what to do IMMEDIATELY:

Whenever you catch yourself talking to yourself
negatively, STOP and rephrase the self-talk to a positive
nature. If you did make one or two mistakes during a
situation, instead of beating yourself up, look at all you
did that was great and rationally tell yourself the TRUE
and accurate ratio of *did right / did wrong*.

Certainly do acknowledge the mistake(s) and what you’ll
do about it next time a similar situation occurs… but then
spend the most time on congratulating yourself for all
the steps you took that were right on target.

NOTE: You may find that your negative self-talk comes
in the form of feelings, not actual inner words that you
can “hear” and recognize. When you feel down and don’t
know why, look to what your feelings are telling you if you
can’t actually “hear” the negative self-talk. If your feelings
had words, what would they say? When you decipher
them, follow the directions above.

If you follow this strategy doggedly every time you catch
yourself criticizing your performances, your life will
absolutely start to change for the better. Your self-esteem
inner peace, and confidence will grow right along with your
successes.

What Am I Thankful For?

Today is November 25, 2010, Thanksgiving Day, here in the U.S. So I just wanted to stop for a few minutes and talk about the things for which I am thankful. Many of the things I treasure, are probably the same things you treasure. Maybe they are entirely different, depending on your culture, religion, background and other variables. But nonetheless, I’ll bet we can agree that it’s good to stop and reflect on what matters the most to us.

I first want to say that I’m so thankful to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for washing my sins away. As a Christian, I am saved from the depths of hell because of His death on the Cross. To my God, I am thankful that He loved us so much that He was willing to give up His only begotten son so that I will live forever in His care.

And with that being said, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude and thankfulness to the Founding Fathers of this great nation in which I live. They undertook a mission to free us from tyrannical rule so that we could all live freely. Free to express our religious beliefs and worship as we please. Free to speak out against our government without fear of reprisal. Free to become truly all we can be. Free to post a blog or join an MLM company or work for 40 years or be an Entrepreneur. The choice is mine because I am free. Thank you.

My family… what can I say? The good, the bad, and the ugly. They’re all my family and I love them. They don’t always do things the way I think they should. (See the paragraph above regarding freedom). They don’t always act the way I want them to. But regardless of what comes between us, nothing can ever separate us. We are blood or we are love, either way, we are FAMILY. And for that I am truly thankful.

My friends all across the world. Some are as close as, or even closer, than family. Some I’ve never even met in person. It doesn’t matter. Each brings something special to me. I am thankful for each and every one.

My business has given me the freedom to grow. There is so much more to learn, to see, to do in my business and I’m thankful for the opportunity to do so. My business grows as I do and vice versa. It is truly a blessing to me. I love writing my blog, building my list of people who want to know what I do, what I know. I love learning new skills, and putting them to use. I am so thankful for my business as it grows and develops, so do I.

I’m thankful for Thanksgiving dinner. College football (Gig’Em!) Pecan pie. Buttermilk pie. I’m thankful that I know how to cook my awesome, mouth-watering “OMG, this is SOOOO good” cornbread dressing. I’m so thankful that I don’t have to go out into the crowds on Black Friday!

And last but certainly not least, I am thankful for all my subscribers and visitors here to my blog. You are truly a blessing to me and I appreciate you all. Please keep coming back and I’ll keep writing.

Happy Thanksgiving!

How To Add A Facebook Like Button

This is really cool. I’ve added a Facebook “like” button to some of my posts here in my blog. It’s really easy to do. My friend, Veronica Smith, Veronica Jo Smith, Internet Marketing Tips for “Newbies” showed me how to do it with a video that she made.

When you install the Like Button on your page or post, and a Facebook user visits your site and clicks on it to “Like” it, a link to your page gets added to their activity stream. All of their friends can see that link, click on it and be led directly to your page. When each person arrives, the Like button is personalized for them — it shows which of their friends have already clicked it, and when they click on it, a link to your page gets added to their stream.

Now there are actually two versions of the Like button, one that uses an i-frame and one that uses JavaScript. I suggest using the I-Frame because it is so easy. Here’s what you do:

Got to http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like

Simply choose the options you want, the first being the site on which you want the like button to appear. Here’s some info from that Facebook page:

Attributes

href – the URL to like. The XFBML version defaults to the current page.

layout – there are three options.

standard – displays social text to the right of the button and friends’ profile photos below. Minimum width: 225 pixels. Default width: 450 pixels. Height: 35 pixels (without photos) or 80 pixels (with photos).

button_count – displays the total number of likes to the right of the button. Minimum width: 90 pixels. Default width: 90 pixels. Height: 20 pixels.

box_count – displays the total number of likes above the button. Minimum width: 55 pixels. Default width: 55 pixels. Height: 65 pixels.

show_faces – specifies whether to display profile photos below the button (standard layout only)

width – the width of the Like button.

action – the verb to display on the button. Options: ‘like’, ‘recommend’

font – the font to display in the button. Options: ‘arial’, ‘lucida grande’, ‘segoe ui’, ‘tahoma’, ‘trebuchet ms’, ‘verdana’

colorscheme – the color scheme for the like button. Options: ‘light’, ‘dark’

ref – a label for tracking referrals; must be less than 50 characters and can contain alphanumeric characters and some punctuation (currently +/=-.:_). The ref attribute causes two parameters to be added to the referrer URL when a user clicks a link from a stream story about a Like action:

fb_ref – the ref parameter

fb_source – the stream type (‘home’, ‘profile’, ‘search’, ‘other’) in which the click occurred and the story type (‘oneline’ or ‘multiline’), concatenated with an underscore.

It’s really simple to do. After you’ve made your choices, click the “Get Code” button. Your code will be displayed. Copy it and then you’ll take it to your blog or whatever page you’re wanting to put it on. Then you just paste it in.

I put mine on my different posts. It seemed to make sense to me that someone would “like” after they’ve read the post. So, I went to my WordPress.org dashboard for my blog. I clicked on Posts and inserted the code at the end of the post. I clicked “Update” and voila! There was a beautiful “Like” button at the end of my post. I’m saving my code on a Notepad, and whenever I add a new Post here, I’ll just grab the code and put it at the end of my post.

NOW, before you rush off to create your own “Like” button, be sure to click on my button at the end of this post and tell the Facebook world you like this post.

And before I forget…. A great big THANK YOU to Veronica for stepping out and showing us how to do this.

52 Laws of Success ~ #31

Law of Success #31
Most Laws of Success are short and sweet, but so

goes, sometimes less is MORE. Pay attention.
The laws always work when YOU apply them.

Go with the flow.

Nothing ever stays the same. Just when we think we’ve
got it all figured out and things are set just right… it
changes. Sometimes that feels as if the rug were pulled
out from under us, and at other times, we wonder what
took the change so long to happen.

Are you someone who resists or welcomes change?

If you’re a resister, you can make your life a whole lot
easier by giving up the fight. Look at each change as a
potential for better and easier living, working, and being,
once the work of the change itself is implemented. Think
“Pay off!” What’s in it for you? The answer is there when
you look!

Change eventually brings positive stuff your way. Look to
your past – what changes that you resisted at first actually
improved your life and you’re now thankful they happened?

8-tracks to cassette tapes … LPs to CDs … VCR tapes to
DVDs … Typewriters to computers to the world wide
web … Sweeping changes that have affected all of our
lives happen technologically almost daily today. And
where would we be today without them?

Think of the changes you’re being asked to go through
right now in the same light and embrace them. Go
ahead and get wet! Jump on that wave and ride it all
the way back to the beach. Your life will be greatly
enhanced and improved… which is ultimately better
than getting dashed to the rocks! Don’t you agree?
